PRESIDENT R. PREMADASA
Hon. R. Premadasa was one of the great leaders of the UNP
Party in Sri Lanka. He became Deputy
Minister of Local Governments in 1965 in the Dudley Senanayaka’s Government of
1965-1970. He was appointed as the Prime
Minister of the J.R. Jayawardena’s Government of 1978-1989. He became the President of Sri Lanka in 1989,
and he was died from a LTTE suicide bomber attack in 1st, May 1993.

He was a great politician as he had implemented many projects
for poor people development. He
introduced Island-wide housing development programme and Janasaviya Poverty
Alleviation Programme focused on low income category. Since many
anti-government groups were behind to make obstacles to stop his development projects,
he had a confidential security units under his personal control to detect the
coups against to him.
